The history of women over that hundred year period is pretty daunting. If you think of the advent of birth control… if you think of how women got the vote— women’s lives have just changed. Young women…are leaving here to be often sole-support parents, successfully and independently going to school and taking care of their family. When the first women came here… they were tarnished.”
Your sexual past shouldn’t be policed, defined or validated by anyone but you. Whether you’re having it or not, want to or not, waiting or truly don’t care at all the old adage remains: your body, your business.
So remember the 14 women who died. Take a moment to reflect on the hundreds and thousands of woman and girls that have endured sexual, physical and verbal abuse and harassment at home, on campus, in the workplace or in any other public area. Mourn those that have disappeared or gone missing… and then, work for change.
